Africa First!

Roadmap for a joint future

The chance of a century to end poverty—and how we can seize it. Africa does not need handouts, but positive impulses. It is therefore high time for a paradigm shift: now Europe must invest instead of help—especially since the low interest rates offer the opportunity to make a big difference with a modest investment.

At the heart of the “Roadmap for a joint future” is an innovative concept for jointly mobilizing capital to build infrastructure. First and foremost, Africa needs a foundation on which investment, entrepreneurship and prosperity can flourish.

This book demonstrates how Europe and Africa can prevent a mass exodus to the North, establish the social market economy and form a strong economic area—in the tradition of the historic Spice Route. In light of the climate crisis and geopolitical system competition, this is more important than ever—also for Europe.
A bold vision? Yes. For now.

Martin Schoeller, 64, is co-founder and managing partner of the Schoeller Group in Pullach (around 4,000 employees, 1 billion euros in group sales) and until recently was regional chairman of the association Die Familienunternehmer (the family entrepreneurs) in Bavaria. He has been involved with Africa for many years, among other things as the initiator of the Desert Food Foundation and as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Togo. In this function, he is in close contact with political decision-makers on site and in Germany in order to develop aid concepts. (schoeller.org and desertfood.org).

Daniel Schoenwitz, 43, is a business journalist, columnist and publicist in Düsseldorf. After studying economics, he graduated from Georg von Holtzbrinck Schule für Wirtschaftsjournalisten (school for business journalists) and worked for six years as an editor for WirtschaftsWoche. Since 2010, the economics graduate has been writing as a freelance author for media such as Die Zeit, Manager Magazin, WirtschaftsWoche and GermanBoard-News.
